Bird Trachea

Click the text link to the left to see a larger view of the bird trachea.

The use of endoscopy has revolutionized bird medicine and surgery. Here at the Exotic and Bird Clinic, we use video endoscopy to help diagnose and treat many diseases. This picture is a view of a bird’s glottis which was infected with an antibiotic resistant bacteria. We were able to directly culture the area and start the pet on a successful antibiotic.

Video examination of the mouth of rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs has allowed us to more accurately diagnose and treat overgrown teeth. The 27X magnification allows viewing problems up close. These teeth are overgrown with sharp points that poke into the tongue and cheek wall.
